Free Knowledge For All

"Imagine the world without free knowledge" - Pakistanis can! Here we don't have anything free - we've to pay bills even if there is no light, gas or government services even if you're a regular tax payer. Putting the cruel realities of life here in Pakistan - Wikipedia is down for JUST 24 hours.

Ohh Man! anyone here would care about this outrage - Hell No... A simple answer from a friend was, dude I'll not have CNG for car from thursday for 3 days, I will get my free knowledge from some other site. I asked him again, are you serious? the reply was, are you serious - array bhai chor kuch aur discuss kar mujay tu iss baat ke tension ho rahe hai agar yea hukumat rah gahe tu next time UPS chalanay kay lehay aik aur UPS chaheyah ho ga..

Wikipedia is world 6th most visited website by any stats, http://www.google.com/adplanner/static/top1000/ and only one in top 100 which is run by volunteers - I think, they should also join PTI as they're doing welfare work which people don't appreciate this easy. Just imagine, I asked 20 people from friends, relatives and office... Guess what how many knew this? I should not write this to show the intellect of Pakistani and especially the IT community.

What will happen here in Pakistan if someone block Facebook for 24 hours?

It is the first time, Wikipedia's english-language site has been blacked out. Wikipedia's Italian site came down once briefly in protest to an Internet censorship bill put forward by the Berlusconi government. The bill did not advance. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales argues that the site can maintain neutrality in content even as it takes public positions on issues."The encyclopedia will always be neutral. The community need not be, not when the encyclopedia is threatened," he tweeted.

Do we understand what kind of message Wales is throwing to this world - it's simple - Free Knowledge with neutrality. Try to Absorb it!

in Pakistan people generally care less about actual issues like building institutions and educating every kid to ensure better future. Take example of Singapore, Turkey and many others they all did the same to bring change in their society within decades.

There is downward shift in terms of global social trends towards education and knowledge as a whole. This is making us more ignorant as compared to our predecessors. The shallowness of knowledge will prove to be castotrophic over a long term as it alos deprive us from the moral values that are important for stable society

Nice cut.. :) so there are many companies who are contributing on their part to make voice against this legislation. Any update on what is the status of this law now after this massive outcry?
